Scott and Marsha Carbury wanted a custom dream home in the hills of eastern Snohomish County. The contractor they hired to build it, however, was not up to the job and soon went out of business. The Carbarys came to Mark Clausen after three years of litigation and another one before trial. After substituting Mr. Clausen for their prior law firm, he reoriented the experts to focus on construction defects for which there would be insurance compensation. The case settled in mediation with a substantial payment to the Carbarys.
“Mark Clausen did a great job for us,” Scott says. “He knew what he was doing and his advice was consistently right on.”
Terri and her husband Tom were suing a surveyor for malpractice in obtaining a short plat. Their case was not going well. They were losing confidence in their lawyer and wanted a second opinion. Terri called Mark Clausen less than two months before the case was set to go to trial. Mark’s advice was that the case was not ready for trial and in fact had some significant weaknesses. Mr. Clausen substituted for the other attorney and obtained a continuance. He then convinced the other side to return to mediation, which had failed earlier. This time, the case settled in mediation on terms favorable to Terri and Tom.
“ I really believe that Mark Clausen rescued our case,” Terri says. “I could trust and rely on his advice in deciding whether to settle. I am so glad we hired him.”
